How the Brain Works

The brain is made up of several different regions, each of which is responsible for specific functions.

The cerebral cortex

It is the outermost layer of the brain and is responsible for higher functions such as perception, movement, and consciousness.

The cerebellum

It is located at the back of the brain and is responsible for coordinating movement and balance.

The brainstem

It connects the brain to the spinal cord and controls essential functions such as breathing and heart rate.

The hippocampus

It is responsible for memory formation, and the amygdala is involved in emotions.

The basal ganglia and the Thalamus

Play important roles in motor control and sensory processing, respectively.
